Monument to soldiers in Afghanistan - Soroca

A stone-carved male soldier in full uniform, clutching a rifle at his side, with a solemn expression. His uniform and posture reflect typical Soviet military iconography of the late 20th century. On the pedestal beside him is inscribed: 1979–1989 and the word "Afganistan" – referencing the duration of the Soviet–Afghan War. The bottom indicates "CONSTRUIT DIN INIȚIATIVA CONSILIULUI RAIONAL ȘI A UNIUNII VETERANILOR DIN AFGANISTAN", so "Built at the initiative of the District Council and the Union of Afghan War Veterans". The Afghanistan war lasted from 1979 until 1989; while the date written below is listed as 2013, it may date from the Soviet period, with the monument having been renovated in 2013.
