Memorial to the Transnistria Conflict - Soroca

Unknown1992

Description

The monument to the Transnistria conflict features a large stone slab inscribed with the names of the fallen heroes, accompanied by portraits mounted on individual plaques arranged along a wall. The bust lists seven soldiers who passed away in the 1992 Transnistria conflict, as well as a falling star. Seven memorial stones show their faces, names, and years of birth and death, with another four empty stones with a black facade included for some unknown reason. It seems unlikely that they're due to unidentified soldiers, given the recency of the conflict. The monument includes the inscription in Romanian "Un potop de lacrimi și de jertfe întru dăinuirea Patriei. Nimic și niciodată nu s-a pierdut din ființa lor…", translated in English as "A flood of tears and sacrifices for the endurance of the Fatherland. Nothing and never has been lost from their being…". Below is written in Romanian "Celor căzuți în 1992 în luptele pentru integritatea țării", translated in English as "To those who fell in 1992 in the battles for the integrity of the country". A Romanian tricolor is painted on the monument on the left, reinforcing the sense of nationality and the efforts to keep the newly independent country together. A Christian cross with a crucifix and a small shrine are also part of the site.
