Memorial of Military Glory - Rybnitsa
V.P. Mednek — 1975
Description
The Military Glory Memorial in Rybnitsa was opened in 1975, on the 30th anniversary of the Great Victory. The eternal flame was lit in a solemn ceremony by Hero of the Soviet Union V.V. Vakharovsky, and the ribbon was cut by I.A. Yablonsky, a participant in the liberation of Rybnitsa from the German-fascist invaders. The memorial complex was built with funds earned by local workers during community work days and is dedicated to the memory of all those who died in the Great Patriotic War. The number of victims is evidenced by the mass graves in the old city cemetery: mass graves of victims of fascism, Soviet liberators, Soviet patriots, as well as a mass grave of Romanian anti-fascists. Its main compositional element is an obelisk in the form of two paired reinforced concrete pylons 24 meters high - a symbol of hands folded in prayer (Anyone know how to petition for a new and improved "prayer hands" emoji?). At the foot of the obelisk is the Eternal Flame. Seventeen plaques with the names of the victims are installed around the perimeter of the memorial: 13 plaques bear the names of 255 Rybnitsa residents who did not return from the fronts of the Great Patriotic War, and four plaques bear the names of 101 patriots brutally shot and burned in the Rybnitsa prison on the night of March 19-20, 1944. The first restoration of the memorial was carried out in 2010. At that time, during the restoration work, a five-pointed star was placed on top of the obelisk. In 2020, on the 75th anniversary of Victory Day, the obelisk was covered with decorative plaster, the inscription “No one is forgotten, nothing is forgotten!” was restored, and the surrounding area was landscaped.
