Description
A monumental sculpture of Ion Creangă is mounted by the entrance of the Ion Creangă State Pedagogical University in Chișinău. Cast in dark metal, he looks smart in his suit with a bow tie and an open overcoat. Ion Creangă (1837–1889) was a Moldavian-Romanian writer and schoolteacher, best known for his childhood memoir Amintiri din copilărie (Memories of My Boyhood) - a classic of Romanian literature. He was also an Eastern Orthodox deacon, but was defrocked for his unconventional behavior and literary pursuits.
