Lazar Dubinovsky — 1975
Description
In the capital of Gagauzia, the city of Comrat, a memorial was erected to the heroes who died during the liberation of the city. Comrat was liberated during the Iasi-Kishinev operation on August 23, 1944. On August 23, 1975, the 30th anniversary of the Great Victory, the remains of soldiers who died during the liberation of Comrat were reburied at the Memorial of Glory on Osvobozhdeniya Street. Before that, they rested in a mass grave on Pobedy Street. A monument to the “Heroes-Liberators” was erected in honor of the liberating soldiers. It is a sculpture of a Soviet soldier and a grieving mother on a high two-step pedestal. The monument was created by the famous Moldovan sculptor and portraitist Lazar Dubinovsky. At the foot of the monument are five slabs with the names of the soldiers buried at the Memorial. An eternal flame burns. On the alley leading to the Memorial, there is a commemorative plaque with the names of fellow countrymen, natives of Comrat, who died on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War.
