Bus Stop - Seliste
Unknown — 1960s-1980s
Description
This fantastic bus stop in Seliște is built of concrete with a flat roof and projecting walls, their surfaces covered in brightly colored mosaics. The decoration uses red, blue, and yellow recall the Moldovan national colors. Upward-facing triangles, often read as male symbols in folk design, appear alongside hexagonal and cross-like patterns, giving the shelter the character of a woven textile translated into tesserae. This is another of my favorite bus stops due to its bright palette and the persistence of its imagery despite damage. Weather is slowly destroying both the structure and the mosaics, yet they maintain much of their vividness. A pale green column on the left is curiously distinct from the rest of the scheme.
