Bus Stop - Marander
Unknown — 1960s-1980s
Description
Standing directly in front of this bus stop in Marander gives the impression of flared wings or a slight butterfly roof. In reality, the flat concrete roof sags to the sides, the column on either end failing to provide sufficient support. It’s difficult to make out from the picture due to the weather and dusk, but it looks like two concrete squares hold a small wooden plank as bench. A mosaic covers the entire back and side walls, consisting of large stylized floral motifs framed by rhombuses. Reds and blues dominate the tesserae, which appear to be hand cut due to their irregular forms. Mosaics and tiles make up the façade of the bus stop, though most have fallen down. It looks to have been quite a beautiful bus stop at one time.
