Bus Stop - Alexandru cel Bun
Unknown — Socialist Modernist
Description
This bus stop in Alexandru cel Bun is one of my favorites due to its spectacular setting, overlooking a wide valley. The structure is built in a simple rectangular plan, with a flat roof and low enclosing walls clad in pale mosaic tiles. Apparently, the architect agrees: they created a rectangular void viewing the rolling hills at the read of the shelter, allowing passengers to enjoy the view (and the wind and rain). Fine mosaic pieces make up peacocks, grapes, vines, a large sunflower, and others plants and flowers. Vibrant colors, including especially yellows, oranges, and browns, make the patterns pop against the background of larger white tiles, likely made out ceramic. The Soviet-era bus stop is in a relatively condition. The surrounding area has been renovated with bricks; renovations to the white mosaics on the left are visible. A low white wall may have been added later too to provide additional protection.
