Statue - Lenin - Tiraspol
V. S. Klimachev — 1987
Description
Lenin monument in Tiraspol, located in front of the Supreme Soviet (now the Supreme Council of Pridnestrovie). The statue stands atop a tall, monolithic red granite pedestal with angular faceting. Lenin is shown in a forward stride, coat draped over his left shoulder, right arm down, left hand pulling the lapel. Erected in 1987 for the 70th anniversary of the October Revolution, this statue is a scaled version of the 19-meter Lenin monument that stood on Leninplatz in Berlin. The original was created in 1970 by Soviet sculptor Nikolai Tomsky. This Tiraspol version was made by his student V. S. Klimachev in Tomsky’s studio. In 1991, four years after the Tiraspol unveiling, the Berlin monument was dismantled.
