Mosaic - Kindergarten No. 14 "Spicusor" #2 - Cahul

At Kindergarten No. 14 "Spicușor" in Cahul, seven mosaic panels installed on the outer stairwell and wall faces depict fantastical, theatrical figures. Completed in 1990, these works are among the last monumental mosaics created in the Moldavian SSR before the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Each composition features a single figure: four clowns, two male and female figures with some kind of scales, and an unknown seventh figure though the remaining patterns that weren’t destroyed point towards another scale-like figure. Color palettes vary but generally consist of primary colors – suitable for a kindergarten – with accents of white, black and brown depending on the panel. Two panels have suffered moderate damage at the upper section, exposing the plaster base and interrupting parts of the headdresses or surrounding motifs. The final panel retains only the face and hands of a clown-like figure at the top.
