Mosaic - House of Culture #2 - Congaz
Unknown — Socialist Modernist
Description
Inside the Congaz House of Culture, two glass mosaics depict young women standing under fruit-bearing trees in Florentine style. Both panels use irregularly shaped glass tesserae arranged in pale, fractured fields – I haven’t come across many Florentine-style mosaics, and these are certainly among my favorite examples. The first mosaic shows a woman in a green dress, holding a basket. She stands beneath a cherry tree. The second mosaic also presents a woman in a white dress with blue accents holding a fruit baskets; she’s already picking apples or peaches from the tree. A stylized orange sun radiates from the top left corner. The background maintains the same fractured pastel composition as the first panel, with slightly warmer tones introduced by the sun motif. Both panels show some signs of aging in but remain intact.
