District Council - Cahul
Unknown — Socialist Modernist
Description
The seat of the Consiliul Raional Cahul occupies a prominent position on the central square of Cahul, a market town in southern Moldova near the Romanian and Ukrainian borders. Set behind a screen of spruce trees that give the building a guarded, institutional presence. The building is a compact four storey administrative block in white render, with a slightly projecting central bay carrying the council's name, designed to project civic authority without the monumental ambition of republican-level institutions. It serves as the administrative centre for a raion (district) of around 100,000 inhabitants. The building type appears to be standardized, with a similar example in Leova, Moldova.
