Bus Stop - Hristoforovca
Unknown — 1960s-1980s
Description
Two curved walls meet under a flat roof at Hristoforovca’s bus stop. I love its sense of modularity: the two sweeping halves appear as though they could pivot inward, closing around waiting passengers for greater shelter. The decoration is rendered in a mosaic, realistically depicting roses climbing along the curving walls against a white backdrop. In Romanian folk art (as in much of the world) the rose is a symbol of beauty, vitality, and sometimes love. Unfortunately, large sectons of missing tiles expose red brick underneath, and the mosaic’s surface is dulled by weather.
