Survey: State of Monument Conservation in Eastern Europe

This survey examines conservation practices for socialist-era monuments across 12 Eastern European countries, revealing significant regional variations in approach, funding, and legal frameworks.

Methodology and Scope

Data was collected through interviews with 47 conservation professionals, analysis of national heritage registers, and field surveys of 234 monuments conducted between January and October 2025. The study focuses on works constructed between 1945 and 1991 that remain in their original locations.
